But some trends of the 18th and 19th century are truly disturbing and morbid, despite their fascinating histories. People would often take pictures of their relatives after their death as a memorial.

No matter what the reason was, people taking pictures of the dead was not only acceptable but also fashionable. These were not printed in obituaries, but hung high on walls for family members to reminisce about their dead relatives.
